Satta Outside music and arts festival, also known as an alternative resort, will celebrate its fifth year anniversary on 12-15 August on the shore of the Baltic sea in Lithuania. The organizers declare the musical part of the program to be fresh, forward-thinking, oldschool-respecting, freeform and precise. It promises cool newcomers and respected veterans on the stages, and around 5000 alternative music and art lovers on the festival site in Šventoji, a small Lithuanian coastal town.
What’s happening?
Satta Outside visitors will have a chance to dive into music, the river or both for three running nights. The festival site and the Baltic beach will host several stages for live and electronic music.
Starring Satta Outside this year is the L.A. based member of Flying Lotus clan – The Gaslamp Killer. In general the program is focused not only on the artists but on the record labels too.. The organizers say that inviting a few of the labels representatives is a way of giving respect to their hard job.
You can find the confirmed acts in this section of the website; with the liks to their social networking sites and some music examples as well. Other important international names and labels are yet to be announced together with the most carefully selected Lithuanian DJs and live acts.
Where and how?
The site of Satta Outside is surrounded by the river and divided into two main areas – the camping site and the main festival field with stages. The symbol of the festival, located in the main field, is a huge and long-abandoned amphitheatre built a few decades ago under the Soviet aesthetic and construction standards. The beautiful white and sandy Baltic beach of Šventoji, the resort that hosts Satta Outside, is 500 m away from the main festival site and camping area. The tropical beach stage and sports activities will be arranged there on Saturday and Sunday.
Šventoji, the little sister of the flamboyant Lithuanian resort of Palanga, is a neat and small Baltic sea town about 330 km away from Lithuanian capital Vilnius. Its kiosks, restaurants, cafes, shops and general public should be treated as a kitchy bonus to the alternative resort home of Satta Outside. The food is great and the rooms for rent are generally cheap and comfortable, just the way you would expect going to a resort.
How can I get there?
Flight option to Lithuania might be the easiest way. You can choose either Vilnius or Kaunas international airports (with Ryanair, Wizzair, AirBaltic,Lufthansa, SAS operators) or a small but handy Palanga international airport (10 Km from the festival site!). Another optiion is the neighboring Latvian capital Riga (approx. 300 km from the festival site). International train service might be a bit complicated after you enter Poland. If you prefer ground travel, it’s better to rent a camper or buy a bus ticket (LUX Express, Ecolines).
Anyway! Even if it’s not provided in main route planners, there‘s a bumpy way to reach the festival site by train from Western Europe. It involves a few jumps and takes a bit longer than you may expect for such a distance, but it‘s quite cheap and comfortable. Warsaw is easily accessible by train from any European city (Berlin – Warsaw approx. 50EUR), so you may start there. Make sure you have some local currency to pay for tickets (currency exchange availabe at Warsaw’s Centralna station).
